October 2nd - Entrance Slip

While reading Kallis' excerpt I reflected on how drastic of a lifestyle change I would need to make in order to incorporate her suggestions for becoming more self sufficient. I believe that to live completely in this ideal would come very drastically for myself but if I were to slowly develop habits I would be able to reach it. For starters, at home I help my family grow food in our garden which I end up eating. However, things I use such as cooking oils would be very hard to obtain and I think I would need to still outsource this if I wanted to be sufficient with my cooking at home. I was a bit frustrated towards the end of the reading when I could not see the three different projects she presented and I will have to pick this book up to see them.

Regarding the videos, I found them very relaxing and theraputic to watch (perhaps because this has been very intense week) but was not able to try out the crafts myself. I thought it was particularly interesting how spinning dates back to as far as 35,000 years ago! Math history has always interested me and so, I would love to do A1 and A2. In fact, I love doing math with my hands. Here are some links to videos with "hand maths" I've collected throughout my life that I figured I would share:

Additionally, I would also like to do A2 and B2.

  1. Great commentary, Vincent! I’m looking forward to watching the film links you’ve posted. I think now I should have included more of Kallis’ chapter— will try to post the rest this week in case people would like to read more!
